Pandaria new dungeons

Temple of the Jade Serpent

The Temple of the Jade Serpent is a new dungeon in the upcoming expansion Mists of Pandaria, located in the The Jade Forest. This is where the last emporer defeated the Sha of Doubt, but now the Alliance-Horde conflict has resulted in the Sha overtaking the Temple. The Temple itself is dedicated to one of the August Celestials, Yu’lon the Jade Serpent. It is the first dungeon Alliance/Horde players can do when they arrive in Pandaria.

As it looks like from the map Blizzard showed at BlizzCon 2011, it looks like when you arrive at the Temple, you can pick one of the two bosses from either side. Once the group kills one of the bosses, the door to the other will be locked and you have to do the instance again to kill the other one. This is only on normal mode; in heroic, the locked doors will be open and you will be able to kill the other boss.

Stormstout Brewery

The Stormstout Brewery is a new dungeon in the upcoming expansion, Mists of Pandaria.

Chen Stormstout’s brewery has been overrun by the Hozu and Verming. The object of the dungeon is to reclaim his family’s heritage and of course, his beer.

There are multiple sections to the dungeon:

  1. The first involves encounters with the monkey-like Hozen, who are partying and being nuisances.
  2. The second section has to do with fighting the Virmen, who overtaken the Brewery in massive numbers, eating everything they can get their paws on. After wading their way through the droves, players fight Hoptallus.
  3. In the third and final section, players encounter Alemantals for the first time. These are elementals formed entirely of beer. Yan-Zhu the Uncasked is the final boss.

The Scholomance (SKOH-loh-mance), a vile academy for prospective necromancers of the Scourge, is located in the ruins of the palatial House of Barov, on a rise overlooking the abandoned city of Caer Darrow. The enemy level range is 38-48 and requires that you be at least level 33 and possess the [Skeleton Key] or a rogue with a 280 lockpicking skill to enter. Alternatively, a warlock can Life Tap himself as low as possible, then Hellfire himself to death. While in ghost form, he can step through the door and resurrect on the inside, letting the group in that way.

Prior to being re-tuned for a lower level range with Patch 4.0.3a, Scholomance was probably the single most efficient pre-TBC instance for farming, with trash runs up to the Great Ossuary taking about 45 minutes for a fast player, and potentially yielding 100-200 gold, depending on which blue items dropped. The instance had a very rich loot table for the level range, and individual mobs tended to drop good amounts of both coins and Runecloth, which generally sold well on the Auction House. In addition, necromancers and dark summoners (as well as a few of the bosses) dropped the prized Dark Runes, which were useful for raiders and could command prices of 15-20 gold each on the Auction House. It was not uncommon for 3-4 to drop during a single run, adding potentially another 80 gold to the instance’s yield.

Scarlet Monastery

The Scarlet Monastery is one of four strongholds in the world belonging to the fanatical Scarlet Crusade, the others being the Scarlet Bastion within the ruins of Stratholme, the town of Hearthglen, and the town of Tyr’s Hand. Located in the northeast corner of the blighted Tirisfal Glades, the Scarlet Monastery was once a cathedral to the Light, now taken over by zealots. The Scarlet Monastery is a complex of four wings, each an instanced dungeon, for both Horde and Alliance characters. The mobs respawn at the same rate in each of them, except for the Cathedral.

Recommended character levels range from 26 to 45 for a group of five, depending on which wing is attempted. The Graveyard is intended for players between level 26 and 36, and can be done even without a full group, usually with 3-4 people. The Library is for players between level 29 and 39, and requires five people to complete at this level range. The Armory also requires 5 people, although 4 can probably down Herod, and is intended for players between level 32 and 42. The Cathedral is definitely the toughest of the four wings, with multiple rough pulls, and will require 5 people. The two bosses, Scarlet Commander Mograine and High Inquisitor Whitemane, are fought at the same time. The Cathedral is tuned for players between level 35 and 45. All four wings allow anyone level 21 or higher to enter. Due to the large number of low-level blue items, SM is a favorite dungeon for low-level players. High-level players also solo SM in order to get all the blue items, [Silk Cloth], etc., to sell; and SM was a good source of money prior to The Burning Crusade. You can also do experience runs up to level 45, but past that the low amount of experience is not worth the time.

All of the instanced wings of the Scarlet Monastery are stored on the same map. That means, if you could fly, you can enter the Cathedral, fly, and end up in the Graveyard wing.

Challenge mode

As previewed at BlizzCon, every new heroic dungeon is going to get a challenge mode. The challenge mode times your run and grants you a bronze, silver, or gold medal depending on how well you do — or nothing at all if you’re just that bad. Blizzard expects that just about any seasoned group should be able to earn at least a bronze medal in each heroic dungeon. Challenge mode does include a ranking system on the server and guild level, allowing you to weigh yourself directly against other players.

Earning bronze medals will net you an achievement, but the real rewards lie with silver and gold. Silver medals will award you pieces of vanity gear to use for transmogrification. The gear will have no stats, but they will have a unique appearance … and completing each set will give you a unique effect. An example given was the dragons on the rogue set’s shoulders will breathe fire once you’ve completed the entire set.
